About Ryan Melendez

Ryan is a senior at Boston University studying Environmental Science and Marine Science. He grew up in Fresno, California.

Some of Ryan's previous experience includes working on a freshwater fisheries study that included tagging rainbow trout to see if the operations of a hydroelectric dam near Lake Tahoe was harming the fish population, working at a marine life aquarium in California and studying tropical ecology in Ecuador, and learning about solar installations and energy efficiency practices with Next Step Living. Ryan’s GIS experience includes Marine GIS projects, such as animating leatherback sea turtle movements and monitoring changes in sea surface temperature in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean, optimizing scuba dive sites with the Stellwagon National Marine Sanctuary, estimating right whale densities in the Gulf of Maine, and identifying suitable habitats for winter flounder, also in the Gulf of Maine.
